Group A streptococcus, commonly known as strep, is one of the bacteria responsible for throat infections, including tonsillitis and/or pharyngitis. This infection can cause various symptoms, including:
- Severe sore throat
- Swollen and tender lymph nodes in the neck
- Pain when swallowing

- Inflammation of the tonsils and throat
- Heartburn
- Presence of ”pus” on the tonsils
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain (especially in children)
If you experience these symptoms, it is important to consult quickly to get a proper diagnosis and treatment. Group A streptococcal pharyngitis/tonsillitis is usually treatable with antibiotics, but timely treatment is crucial to avoid potentially serious complications.
