The warts associated with HPV

Genital warts (condylomas) are often the only visible indicator of a human papillomavirus (HPV) infection.

These small growths can develop on the genital areas or inside, a long time after sexual contact.

Although in most cases, the HPV infection eventually disappears completely, the virus may remain dormant in the body and reappear later, causing the growths commonly known as condylomas.

HPV types 6 and 11 are responsible for 90% of cases. Fortunately, the vaccine we administer offers effective protection against these strains of HPV, thereby reducing the risk of developing genital warts and associated complications.

Cancers associated with HPV

Vaginal and vulvar cancers account for about 3% of gynecological cancers, although their incidence is on the rise.

There are two types of vulvar cancer:

  • The first type is associated with vulvar skin conditions known as dermatoses, which mainly affect older women.

  • The second type is related to an HPV infection, primarily affecting young women. HPV strains 16 and 18 are the main culprits behind vaginal and vulvar cancers. Fortunately, the vaccine we administer provides protection against these HPV strains, thus reducing the risk of developing vaginal or vulvar cancer linked to this virus.

Also known as “head and neck cancer,” head and neck cancer encompasses several types of cancers, including those of the mouth, sinuses, nose, salivary glands, larynx, and lymph nodes in the neck.

The number of oropharyngeal cancers related to HPV is increasing.

Often transmitted through oral sexual contact with infected individuals.

Among HPV strains, strain 16 is the most frequently involved in the development of these head and neck cancers. Fortunately, the vaccine we administer offers protection against these strains of HPV, thus reducing the risk of developing a cancer related to this virus.

Also known as penile cancer, it is a rare form of cancer, representing less than 1% of cancers in men.

It primarily affects the glans or foreskin, rather than the base of the penis.

Strains 16 and 18 of the human papillomavirus (HPV) are the ones most often associated with the development of penile cancer. Fortunately, the vaccine we administer provides protection against these strains of HPV, thereby reducing the risk of developing penile cancer related to this virus.

Also known as anal cancer.

It is rare but on the rise in Canada.

HPV strain 16 is most frequently associated with anal cancer. Fortunately, the vaccine we administer provides effective protection against these strains of HPV, thus reducing the risk of developing a cancer linked to this virus.

Also known as cervical cancer, it is primarily caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).

In Canada, about 1,350 women are diagnosed with this disease every year, and about 1 in 3 women die from it.

HPV strains 16, 18, 31, and 45 are most frequently linked to this type of cancer worldwide. Cervical cancer is one of the most serious consequences of HPV infection, with a concerning mortality rate for women who contract it. Fortunately, the vaccine we administer provides effective protection against these HPV strains, thereby reducing the risk of developing this cancer related to the virus.
